LGBTQ+ Socialization Project

Most gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and other queer young people grow up without other LGBTQ+ people in their homes. This can leave them without guidance for how to understand their sexuality and gender and how to prepare for the anti-LGBTQ bias they may face. ​We are conducting a research project with LGBTQ+ youth and their parents to understand how LGBTQ+ young people grow into their LGBTQ+ identities and what role parents play to cultivate this process.

• How can I get involved? The study is open for youth and families to sign up now. You may also contact us to get more information.
• Who can participate? LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-20 and their parents or caregivers in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, & Pennsylvania. We are looking for 30 families to participate. 
• How long does it take? Families will join us for two Zoom appointments. One appointment for two hours and one for an hour and a half. Families will also be asked to do an online 5 minute survey.
• What will you be asked to talk about? We will guide a conversation about your experiences as an LGBTQ+ young person or parent, but you will tell us what's important. We adapt each interview based on your experiences and story.
• Will participants be paid? Participants may receive up to $100 each in gift cards for completing all steps of the study.
